Tips for Decluttering and Purging Old Spices

  • Gather all of your spices and take them to the dining room table

  • Use a magnifying glass to see the ‘Best By Dates’ on your jars

  • Check spices one by one. Carefully smell the herbs and spices and if they are lacking aroma, go ahead and toss them.

  • If there is a spice that is still full of flavor but you don’t plan on using it, consider mixing complimentary flavors together to create your own spice blends - you could even give these as gifts!

Convenient Locations to Store your Herbs and Spices

  • Near the stove and your favorite prep space

    • in a cabinet

    • on the counter on a shelf or spice rack

    • on a lazy susan

    • in a drawer with the label facing up

  • In a hanging shelf on the inside of the pantry door

  • If you have spices that you only use seasonally, you can store those in a box tucked somewhere in the kitchen you don’t access often
