Kitchen Collections

There are endless items that we can choose to collect in the kitchen. These items create a special group and are oftentimes used less likely that many other kitchen items. So how do we display and enjoy our collections while maintaining a clutter-free space? The key is planned and creative storage solutions with which to display these collections. Examples of collections you may have in the kitchen and how to organize your collection

  • Teaspoons from your travels

    • hang from a round metal piece and display on the dining room table

    • create a chandelier, mobile, or wind chimes

  • Coffee Mugs

    • hang on the wall

    • store on a bookshelf or hanging shelf

  • Teacups and Saucers

    • find a shelving unit that you like to line them up or stack them

  • Pottery Bowls

    • Stack them within each other

    • Store items like tea bags or tea towels inside

  • Christmas Dishes

  • Gifts that have become collections

    • hang with a thumbtack and some ribbon

    • display in a decorative vase

How to avoid a cluttered looking collection

  • Store items as high up as possible

  • Hang items when possible

  • Avoid collections on the countertop when possible

  • Rotate items within your collection so you can display part of your collection at a time

How to determine if its the right time to shrink our collections

  • If I was going to release 3, which 3 would it be?

  • How will I release it?

    • sell

    • re-gift

    • donate to a museum

    • “loan” your collection to your favorite local business for them to use it as a decoration

    • consider photographing each item and writing a story about its meaning before releasing it

Additional ideas to display your collections

  • Consider hanging a magnetic board on the wall to display any magnetic collections
