Organizing Tasks by Age Group

6 and Under

  • helping carry groceries into the house

    • maybe one box of cereal that goes straight into the pantry

  • helping unload plastic dishes from the dishwasher

  • put away items that are close to the ground

7 to 12

  • Allow the child to take ownership of a project that they can complete

  • Sorting items in the pantry and grouping things like with like

  • Ask the child if they have any ideas for creative ways to store things

13 and Up

  • Provide choices for your teenager
